Ingredients

  • 1 lb. stewing beef
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 onions
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 Tbsp. sugar or sugar substitute
  • 1/4 c. catsup
  • 1/2 c. red wine (optional)
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • vegetables (carrots and potatoes)

Method

  • Brown meat in butter; remove and then brown the onions.
  • Add meat, minced garlic and onions in pot with bouillon cube, water, catsup and seasoning.
  • Cook for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Then add wine and vegetables and cook for 1/2 hour longer.
  • This can be served as is or serve over buttered noodles and sprinkle with poppy seed.
