Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. soft margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. milk

Method

  • Cream margarine and sugar.
  • Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Stir together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.
  • If dough is sticky, add flour to handle.
  • Cut out with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake in moderate oven at 350° to 375° for 8 minutes.
  • These are called sugar cookies now, but used to be called "Tea Cakes."
