Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. rye flour
- 1 1/2 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. soft shortening
- 1 c. molasses (Grandma's)
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. warm water
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 6 to 8 c. white flour
Method
- Mix rye flour with hot water and molasses.
- Add yeast to warm water.
- Mix rye flour, water and molasses mixture with yeast and shortening.
- Add flour.
- Knead well.
- Place in greased bowl and let rise until double.
- Shape into 3 loaves.
- Let rise again. Bake 1 hour at 325°.
