Ingredients

  • 1 medium size onion, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 3 slices bread, crust removed and cubed
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 lb. chopped chuck or round steak
  • 1/2 lb. veal
  • 1/2 lb. chopped lean pork
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/3 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. butter
  • 1 c. water or bouillon

Method

  • In a saucepan, cook the onion in the butter until straw colored.
  • Put the bread cubes in a large bowl.
  • Pour in the milk and the onion. Set aside until milk has been absorbed.
  • Add the chopped round steak, chopped veal, chopped pork, salt, pepper, allspice, nutmeg and eggs.
  • With hands, mix all the ingredients together thoroughly and shape into balls (1-inch).
  • Roll balls in flour.
