Ingredients

  • 1/2 c warm water
  • 1 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp yeast
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 pound cold unsalted butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 c +1-2 tbps butter
  • 1-1/2 c flour
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • optional cheese layer
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c quark
  • 2 1/2 tbsp cornstarch

Method

  • Let water sugar and yeast froth for 10 minutes. Sift dry ingredients and cup in butter with pastry cutter. Beat yolks and add milk. Combine yeast,milk and flour together to make dough. Chill for 2 hours or overnight. Roll out dough to cover cookie sheet. Allow to rest while making topping.Mix streusel lightly with finger tips. Sprinkle streusel on top. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes until just golden.
