Ingredients

  • 2/3 c. water
  • 4 tbsp. meringue powder
  • 1 1/4 c. white shortening
  • 11 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon butter flavoring
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
  • 1/2 teaspoon clear vanilla

Method

  • Combine water and the meringue powder in a large bowl.
  • Whip on high speed until stiff peaks form.
  • Add in 4 c. of the confectioners' sugar 1 c. at a time.
  • Mix on low speed.
  • Alternately add in shortening and remaining confectioners' sugar.
  • Add in salt and flavorings.
  • Beat on low speed till smooth.
  • May be stored well covered in refrigerator for several weeks.
  • Bring to room temperature before using.
  • Makes 8 c..
  • Recipe may be cut in 1/2 or doubled.
