Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef (eye of round steak or 95% lean ground beef)
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped red or green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 c. reduced sodium ketchup
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp. packed light brown sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

Method

  • Cook ground beef, onion, celery, bell pepper and garlic in medium skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and vegetables tender (about 10 minutes). Stir in ketchup, water, mustard, vinegar and brown sugar; heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered until mixture is thickened (about 5 minutes). Season to taste with salt and pepper. Spoon onto toasted buns. Makes 4 servings.
