Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. bread pieces
  • 1/4 c. melted margarine or butter
  • 3 c. tomatoes, peeled and cut
  • 6 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • dash of ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. salt

Method

  • Line baking dish with bread pieces and pour melted butter over them.
  • Mix until bread is coated with butter.
  • Stir sugar, cloves and salt into tomatoes.
  • Heat tomatoes to boiling and pour over bread.
  • Stir to mix bread with tomatoes.
  • Bake at 425° for 30 minutes or until well-browned.
  • This dish freezes well.
  • Serves six.
