Ingredients
- 2 lb Granny Smith apples (4), peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
- 4 garlic cloves, quartered
- 1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh marjoram or thyme
Method
- Simmer all ingredients in a 3-quart heavy saucepan, covered, stirring occasionally, until apples fall apart and garlic is tender, about 15 minutes.
- Mash garlic into applesauce.
- Season with salt and pepper.
