Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dry yeast
  • 2 cups milk warm
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 3 eggs at room temperature, lightly beaten
  • flour 750 gr-1000gr
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 kilogram sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 juice Peel&, lemon

Method

  • Melt yeast in the warm milk. Add eggs and oil slowly and then the flour till you get a soft dough.
  • Take 1/3 of dough and add walnuts, cocoa, cinnamon and cloves. Knead dough (dough will turn brown) and divide it into 3 pieces. Make 3 cords (about 15 cm length)
  • Now take the white dough and divide it into 3 pieces. Make a rectangular with each one in order to wrap with these the brown cords. Put a cord in each rectangular and wrap.
  • Cut into pieces about 4 cm in length and press them in order to broaden.
  • Put the cookies in a buttered pan and put them in a warm place to rise.
  • Heat oven to 180oC and bake them until browned (depending on the size eround 35-45 minutes)
  • Prepare the syrup: boil all the ingredients for about 6-7 minutes. While the cookies are still warm, dip them in the syrup, let them for 3-4 minutes and remove them with a slotted spoon. Pour the cookies with the left over syrup.
