Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger or Italian sausage
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 (6 oz.) tomato paste
  • 1 (8 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1 c. cottage cheese
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 12 oz. Mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 lb. lasagna noodles

Method

  • Brown meat and onion; drain.
  • Add seasonings, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water.
  • Mix well.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Turn heat to low; cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  • Cook lasagna noodles in salted water for 10 to 13 minutes, or until tender.
  • Drain; pour cold water over them until they are cool enough to handle.
  • Combine cottage cheese and egg.
  • Place 1/2 of noodles in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  • Spread 1/2 of meat sauce over noodles, then 1/2 of the cottage cheese mixture, then 1/2 of the Mozzarella cheese slices and sprinkle with 1/2 of Parmesan cheese.
  • Repeat layers.
  • Bake at 375° for 45 minutes.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
