Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 oz. red food coloring
  • 2 1/2 c. cake flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Cream the sugar and butter; add eggs.
  • Mix together the vinegar, cocoa and food coloring.
  • Add to creamed mixture.
  • Sift together dry ingredients.
  • Add to mixture alternately with buttermilk.
  • Add vanilla and beat with mixture thoroughly.
  • Bake in layers 30 minutes at 350°.
