Ingredients
- 1-1/2 cup Sugar
- 1/2 cups Shortening
- 2 cups Flour
- 2 Tablespoons Cocoa
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 ounce, fluid Water
- 1 ounce, fluid Red Food Coloring
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 2 whole Eggs
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1 Tablespoon Vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Soda
Method
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Premix water, food coloring and buttermilk. Set aside. Combine sugar, shortening, flour, cocoa and salt. Add milk mixture. Beat until well blended. Add eggs one at a time, beating mixture in between. Add vanilla. Beat for 1 minute.
- Mix vinegar and baking soda together. Add to the batter and mix BY HAND (do not beat anymore).
- Bake in two 9-inch round pans (that have been greased and floured) for 30 minutes.
