Ingredients

  • 1 head grated red cabbage
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tart apple, peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 Tbsp. raspberry syrup or regular syrup
  • 1 minced onion
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1/4 c. red wine

Method

  • Brown onion lightly in 2 tablespoons oil, mixed with 1 tablespoon oleo and grated cabbage.
  • Stir.
  • Add about 1 cup water, bay leaf, cloves and vinegar.
  • Let simmer for 30 minutes, then add apple-syrup, salt-pepper and wine.
  • Let simmer for 30 more minutes.
  • Freezes well and tastes best when reheated.
