Ingredients
- 1/2 lb. butter
- 3 c. sugar
- 6 eggs, separated
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. lemon or almond extract (optional)
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 pt. sour cream
- 3 c. plain flour, sifted twice
Method
- Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.
- Beat in egg yolks, one at a time.
- Add flavorings.
- Add baking soda to flour.
- Alternately add flour and sour cream to creamed mixture.
- Beat egg whites until stiff and carefully fold into mixture.
- Pour into a greased and floured tube pan and bake at 300° to 325° for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
- It should have a nice brown crust on top.
