Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon or almond extract (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 pt. sour cream
  • 3 c. plain flour, sifted twice

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.
  • Beat in egg yolks, one at a time.
  • Add flavorings.
  • Add baking soda to flour.
  • Alternately add flour and sour cream to creamed mixture.
  • Beat egg whites until stiff and carefully fold into mixture.
  • Pour into a greased and floured tube pan and bake at 300° to 325° for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  • It should have a nice brown crust on top.
