Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Italian bread, cut in half lengthwise
  • 3 pats butter
  • 3/4 c. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano leaves
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. minced onions
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 8 slices process American cheese
  • 2 ripe tomatoes

Method

  • Spread the butter on first; spread mixture on cut side of bread.
  • Place cut side up on baking sheet pan.
  • Top with thin slices of ripe tomatoes.
  • Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 20 minutes.
  • Take out of oven.
  • Top with 8 slices of cheese until melted, about 5 minutes.
  • Cut into 8 pieces.
