Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp. corn oil
- 4 Tbsp. chopped onion
- 2 c. raw Busmati rice, well rinsed
- 1/4 tsp. ground turmeric
- 1/2 tsp. salt or to taste
- 2 whole cloves
- 3 bay leaves
- 3 1/4 c. water or more as needed
Method
- Heat the oil in a pan and, over moderate heat, fry the onion for 2 minutes, or until turns golden.
- Add the rice and stir well. Add the turmeric and salt and continue to fry the rice lightly for 2 minutes.
- Add water, cloves and bay leaves; stir.
- Bring to a boil and immediately turn the heat to low.
- Cover the pan and cook for 15 minutes.
- Stir once toward the end of that time.
