Ingredients

  • 5 lb. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar (sweetener)
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening (heaping)
  • 2 oz. yeast
  • 6 c. warm water

Method

  • Add salt and sugar to flour.
  • Cut shortening into dry ingredients.
  • Dissolve yeast in 4 cups of warm water.
  • Add 2 more cups of warm water as needed.
  • Mix well with hands.
  • Knead on a hard surface until it is all smooth and worked together.
  • Grease top in bowl.
  • Let rise until double in size.
  • Punch down.
  • Let rise again.
  • Put in pans.
  • Let rise.
  • Bake at 350° until golden brown.
