Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. chopped, canned Bartlett pears
  • 2/3 c. chopped pecans

Method

  • Cream together shortening and sugars; add egg and beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, allspice, cinnamon and salt.
  • Add to shortening mixture.
  • Stir in pears and nuts.
  • Pour into a 9-inch greased loaf pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 1 hour.
  • Let stand until cool. Remove and dust with powdered sugar.
