Ingredients

  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 2/3 c. sugar
  • 2/3 c. brown sugar
  • 2/3 c. peanut butter
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 small eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Cream the shortening and sugar together; beat eggs and add to mixture.
  • Beat thoroughly.
  • Add peanut butter and vanilla and blend well.
  • Add dry ingredients a little at a time and beat well after each time.
  • Form dough into balls the size of walnuts. Place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Press with a fork (dip in cold water ever so often) in one direction and then at right angles to form a cross.
  • Bake at 400° for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
