Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. white syrup
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 c. raw peanuts
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Boil sugar, syrup and water until it will spin a thread (240°). Add peanuts and salt and continue cooking slowly over a low fire until it turns a golden brown at the hard-crack stage (300°). Remove from fire and add butter, baking soda and vanilla.
  • Stir quickly.
  • Spread on two large cookie sheets that have been well buttered.
  • Cool and break into pieces.
