Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef, cut in 1-inch cubes
  • 1 c. canned tomatoes
  • 6 small carrots, cut in strips
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 c. diced celery
  • 1 slice white bread, broken in pieces
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 medium size potatoes, cut into cubes
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. water

Method

  • Combine the meat, tomatoes (add more if necessary), carrots, onion, celery, bread and sugar.
  • Add rest of ingredients; mix thoroughly.
  • Pour into a 2 1/2-quart baking dish.
  • Cover; bake in a 325° oven for about 3 1/2 hours, until meat and vegetables are tender.
  • Serve with French bread and green salad.
