Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 c. pecans, chopped
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 1/3 c. buttermilk
  • 1 can coconut
  • 1 lb. orange slice candy
  • 1 dash of soda
  • 1 lb. dates, cut
  • 1 c. orange juice
  • 1 c. sugar

Method

  • Melt butter; let cool.
  • Cream in sugar.
  • Add eggs one at a time; beat well.
  • Add 1 cup buttermilk; add soda to the 1/3 cup buttermilk.
  • Chop nuts and cut dates and orange slice candy. Mix these with 1 cup flour; add remainder of flour to butter mixture.
  • Add dates, candy slices and coconut to batter.
  • Bake in a tube pan (10-inch), well-greased and floured.
  • Bake at 250° for 2 1/2 hours.
