Ingredients

  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda, dissolved in buttermilk
  • 1 lb. candy orange slices, diced
  • 1 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 (16 oz.) pkg. dates
  • 1 c. flaked coconut

Method

  • Cream sugar and butter.
  • Add eggs, 1 at a time.
  • Beat flour and milk alternately.
  • Add remaining ingredients.
  • Bake in tube pan 3 1/2 hours at 250°.
  • Remove from oven.
  • Cool slightly and pour mixture of 1 can orange juice and 2 cups powdered sugar over cake while still in pan.
  • Let stand overnight before removing from pan.
