Ingredients
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 c. canned or sweet milk
- 1 yeast cake
- 2 eggs
- 7 1/2 c. plain flour
Method
- Pour boiling water over shortening, sugar and salt.
- Add milk; add yeast that has been dissolved in lukewarm water.
- Add beaten eggs; stir in 4 cups flour.
- Beat hard; add enough flour to a soft dough.
- Place in an airtight container and grease top of dough. Cover with a damp cloth and keep in refrigerator until ready to use.
- Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness; cut into squares.
- Drop in hot deep fat and fry until lightly brown.
- Drain on paper towel; dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve hot.
- Dough is best when it is about a week old and does not have to be used all at once.
