Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine

Method

  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, soda and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. With pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  • Add buttermilk and stir with a fork until well combined.
  • Knead into a ball.
  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • On a lightly floured board, roll out dough 1/8-inch thick.
  • With a floured 3-inch round cutter, cut into crackers.
  • Lightly grease several baking sheets.
  • Prick tops several times with the tines of a fork.
  • Sprinkle with some of the remaining salt.
  • Bake until lightly browned on edges, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Cool baked crackers completely on wire rack.
  • Store tightly covered.
