Ingredients

  • pastry for double crust
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 8 tart apples (such as Granny Smith)
  • 3 Tbsp. butter

Method

  • Line pie plate with pastry and fill with peeled, thinly sliced apples (pile high in center).
  • Mix cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sprinkle evenly over the apples.
  • Dot with butter; moisten edges of crust with water.
  • Fit top crust and seal edges.
  • Make vents or lay top crust in lattice strips over the apples and filling.
  • Bake at 425° for 1 hour.
