Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • dash of salt
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. rolled oats
  • 1/4 c. nuts, chopped

Method

  • Simmer raisins in water until tender.
  • Drain and save liquid. Add water to liquid to make 1/2 cup.
  • Cream shortening, sugar and eggs; add liquid and mix well.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.
  • Add gradually to shortening and liquid mixture. Mix well.
  • Add oats.
  • Stir in raisins and nuts.
  • Drop onto cookie sheet that has been greased and floured lightly.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 375°.
