Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 3 egg yolks, beaten
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped fine (pecans, walnuts)
  • 3 egg whites, beaten

Method

  • Cream butter and add sugar; beat until smooth.
  • Add beaten egg yolks and mix well.
  • Combine the dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
  • Add vanilla and nuts; mix well.
  • Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  • Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 350° for 45 minutes or until done.
  • Good with caramel frosting.
