Ingredients

  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 5 Tbsp. water
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar

Method

  • Combine flour and salt in a large bowl.
  • Cut in shortening. Combine egg, water and vinegar.
  • Mix well.
  • Pour liquid ingredients into dry ingredients.
  • Mix until the flour is moistened and dough is easy to handle.
  • Divide into 3 parts.
  • Roll out one part at a time on a floured board.
  • Dough may be covered and refrigerated for up to a week.
  • Dough may also be frozen. Yields pastry for 3 (9-inch) pies.
