Ingredients
- 8 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. anise seed
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 2 sticks melted butter
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2 eggs
Method
- Stir first 4 ingredients.
- Mix together milk and butter. Make sure this mixture is good and warm but not too hot as to kill the yeast.
- Add yeast.
- Mix together.
- Pour warmed liquid mixture into flour mixture.
- Stir well and add eggs.
- Mix together well. Knead together well (about 7 to 8 minutes).
- Let mixture rise in bowl for 2 hours.
- Roll out and cut into symmetrical strips. Place in greased pan.
- Cover with a damp cloth for 30 minutes. Pat down to 1/2-inch high.
- Bake at 250° until bottoms turn brown. Place under broiler to brown tops.
- Watch closely as to not burn.
