Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. bourbon
  • 1 1/2 c. brewed coffee
  • 5 oz. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 c. sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. vanilla

Method

  • Preheat oven to 275°.
  • Combine bourbon with hot coffee.
  • Melt chocolate in this mixture.
  • Add sugar and salt.
  • Combine flour, baking soda and powder and gradually beat into chocolate mixture. Do not overbeat.
  • Lightly mix eggs and vanilla into batter.
  • Pour into a buttered and floured tube pan and bake at 275° for about 1 1/2 hours.
  • The cake is done when a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • May frost if desired.
