Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. onion, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 large cans tomatoes
  • 2 small cans tomato paste
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. each: salt and pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 lb. ground pork
  • 1 c. fine dry bread crumbs
  • 3/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tsp. parsley
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. long spaghetti

Method

  • Brown onion in hot olive oil.
  • Add tomatoes, tomato paste, water and seasonings.
  • Cook slowly for 1 hour.
  • Combine remaining ingredients, except spaghetti; mix thoroughly.
  • Form into small balls; brown in olive oil.
  • Add to sauce; cook over low heat for 15 minutes.
  • Cook spaghetti in boiling, salted water until tender; drain.
  • Serve sauce over hot spaghetti.
  • Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Makes 6 servings.
