Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
  • 3/4 c. bread crumbs
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening

Method

  • Combine ground chuck, egg, pepper, onion, bread crumbs and seasonings.
  • Mix thoroughly.
  • Shape into balls.
  • Brown in shortening until all sides of meat are evenly browned (approximately 10 minutes).
  • Add tomato sauce, water and bay leaf. Bring to a boil.
  • Simmer 1 hour.
  • Serve over spaghetti.
  • Serves 6.
