Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 Tbsp. baking cocoa
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves or ginger
  • 2 c. applesauce
  • 2 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 c. salad oil
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Blend dry ingredients.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into large rectangular pan or two 8-inch round layer pans. Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes.
  • May add chopped walnuts and/or raisins.
  • Sprinkle top with powdered sugar after baking or frost with light chocolate frosting.
  • Stores well.
