Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted cake flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 c. water
- 4 egg whites
Method
- Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
- Cream shortening with sugar and vanilla until fluffy.
- Add sifted dry ingredients and water alternately in thirds, mixing well after each addition. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry, and fold into batter. Pour into greased pans and bake in moderate oven (350°) for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Makes 2 (8-inch) layers.
