Ingredients
- 1 gal. medium-size cucumbers
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. alum
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. pickling salt
- 2 Tbsp. pickling spices
Method
- Pack whole cucumbers into gallon jar.
- Add alum, pickling salt and pickling spices.
- Cover with apple cider vinegar.
- Place lid on jar.
- Let stand in a cool, dark place for 3 months (do not refrigerate).
- Take cucumbers out and slice.
- Sprinkle 6 to 8 cups sugar over cucumbers.
- Let stand until sugar melts.
- Pack into jars; cover with the syrup and seal.
- Do not heat.
