Ingredients

  • 1 gal. medium-size cucumbers
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. alum
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. pickling salt
  • 2 Tbsp. pickling spices

Method

  • Pack whole cucumbers into gallon jar.
  • Add alum, pickling salt and pickling spices.
  • Cover with apple cider vinegar.
  • Place lid on jar.
  • Let stand in a cool, dark place for 3 months (do not refrigerate).
  • Take cucumbers out and slice.
  • Sprinkle 6 to 8 cups sugar over cucumbers.
  • Let stand until sugar melts.
  • Pack into jars; cover with the syrup and seal.
  • Do not heat.
