Ingredients
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. cocoa
- 2 c. jam
- 3 c. flour
Method
- Cream sugar and shortening.
- Add eggs, one at a time; mix well.
- Add soda to buttermilk.
- Let stand until it foams.
- Mix dry ingredients.
- Add one cup at a time to other mixture and beat. Add buttermilk, a little at a time, then fold in the jam last. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes.
- Makes a very large cake.
