Ingredients

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 c. cooking oil
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. self-rising flour
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 5 egg whites, beaten stiff
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 can coconut
  • 1 c. chopped nuts

Method

  • Cream margarine, oil and sugar.
  • Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Add flour and soda, alternately with milk.
  • Fold in vanilla and egg whites.
  • Add coconut and nuts last, leaving a small amount of each for icing.
  • Bake at 350° for 25 minutes or until done.
