Ingredients
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- pinch of salt
- 1 well beaten egg
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1 1/2 c. raisins
- 1 Tbsp. caraway seed
Method
- Rub shortening into flour with sugar, baking powder, baking soda and a pinch of salt.
- Add well beaten egg, buttermilk, raisins and caraway seed.
- Knead on a floured board and bake in a round glass casserole dish with cross cut in top of dough.
- Bake 1 hour at 375°.
- Delicious served warm with butter and jams.
