Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 stick (1-ounce) butter, melted
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups hot water
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a bowl, sift flour, sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt together.
  • Add the milk, nuts, vanilla and butter and mix until smooth.
  • Pour into a 9 by 13-inch baking pan.
  • Mix the brown sugar, water and 4 tablespoons cocoa well, and pour over the batter.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes.
