Ingredients
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 60 ml (2 fl oz/1/4 cup) hoisin sauce
- 3 teaspoons light soy sauce
- 3 teaspoons honey
- 2 tablespoons tomato sauce (ketchup) or sweet chilli sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 spring onions (scallions), finely sliced
- 1.5 kg (3 lb 5 oz) chicken wings
Method
1. To make the marinade, mix together the garlic, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, tomato sauce, sesame oil and spring onion.
2. Put the chicken wings in a shallow, nonmetallic dish, add the marinade, cover and leave in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
3. Drain the chicken, reserving the marinade. Cook the chicken on a hot, lightly oiled barbecue grill plate or flat plate, turning once, for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown. Baste with the marinade during cooking. Heat any remaining marinade in a pan until boiling, boil for 3 minutes and serve as a sauce.
