Ingredients

  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 4 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 c. dark brown sugar
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 c. flour

Method

  • In the evening, soak raisins in boiling water with baking soda; cover.
  • In the morning, add brown sugar, white sugar, oil and salt.
  • Add flour.
  • Grease and flour 4 (1 pound) coffee cans. Fill cans, dividing batter equally.
  • Bake 1 hour at 350°.
  • Let cool a few minutes before removing from cans, then cool on wire rack.
  • Enjoy right away or wrap and freeze.
