Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. uncooked macaroni
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 4 Tbsp. flour
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 lb. cubed Velveeta
  • 2/3 c. sour cream
  • 1 1/3 c. cottage cheese
  • 2 c. grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs

Method

  • Cook and drain macaroni.
  • Place in 2 1/2 qt. greased casserole dish.
  • Melt butter over medium heat, stir in flour; mix well.
  • Add milk and cook over medium heat, stir constantly until sauce thickens.
  • Add salt, sugar, and cheese, mix well.
  • Mix sour cream and cheese into sauce.
  • Pour over macaroni; mix well.
  • Sprinkle grated cheese and bread crumbs over top.
  • Dot with butter.
  • The dish may be frozen at this point.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
