Ingredients
- 1 1/4 c. butter
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 c. self-rising flour (unsifted)
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- nutmeg (optional)
Method
- Combine sugar and butter to cream.
- Add eggs; mix thoroughly. Stir in flour.
- Add flavoring.
- Refrigerate.
- Roll out on floured wax paper very thin.
- Cut with cookie cutter; bake for 10 minutes at 350°.
- Watch closely, as they burn easily.
- (Can be dropped from spoonfuls without refrigerating.)
- Cookies are best when wrapped in "flour sack" (cotton cloth) and allowed to mellow for several days.
