Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. butter
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 c. self-rising flour (unsifted)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • nutmeg (optional)

Method

  • Combine sugar and butter to cream.
  • Add eggs; mix thoroughly. Stir in flour.
  • Add flavoring.
  • Refrigerate.
  • Roll out on floured wax paper very thin.
  • Cut with cookie cutter; bake for 10 minutes at 350°.
  • Watch closely, as they burn easily.
  • (Can be dropped from spoonfuls without refrigerating.)
  • Cookies are best when wrapped in "flour sack" (cotton cloth) and allowed to mellow for several days.
