Ingredients

  • 3 c. white sugar
  • 1 pound pure lard
  • 1 c. dark molasses
  • 2 c. cool water
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 6-8 c. flour

Method

  • Heat lard in large kettle.
  • Cold.
  • Add in sugar-molasses and water-mix.
  • Add in salt-soda-cinnamon.
  • Nutmeg, ginger and 6 c. flour.
  • Mix well.
  • Will be sticky.
  • Flour board well and work more flour into dough as you divide in workable sections.
  • Roll.
  • Cut desired size.
  • Place on greased and floured cookie pans.
  • Sprinkle with white sugar and top of each.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 min.
