Ingredients

  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 green pepper, cut in strips
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp. seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 qt. or 1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. wide noodles
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. Mozzarella, sliced

Method

  • In Dutch oven, saute onion and pepper in butter for 3 minutes. Add beef; brown, breaking up meat as it cooks.
  • Add seasoned salt, pepper and sugar.
  • Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce and water. Heat mixture to boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. In a 9 x 13-inch pan, place wide noodles, then tomato-meat mixture.
  • Top with Mozzarella cheese.
  • Cover with aluminum foil; bake in preheated 350° oven for 45 minutes.
  • Cut and serve as you would lasagne.
  • Makes 8 to 10 servings.
