Ingredients

  • apples
  • 2/3 c. water
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 3 red cinnamon candies
  • a few drops of lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • a dash (1/8 tsp.) salt
  • butter
  • plum jelly

Method

  • Use hard, tart apples, not Delicious.
  • Peel and core them (any desired amount).
  • Put water and sugar in saucepan and boil for about 10 minutes, half covered with liquid.
  • Place apples in boiling water syrup and cook about 5 minutes.
  • Cover apples with the sauce gently over and over with this sauce.
  • Repeat until they are tender to the touch of a fork.
  • Add about 3 red cinnamon candies to the sauce.
  • Add lemon juice.
  • Add vanilla and salt. Place 1/4 teaspoon butter in the cavity of each apple when you turn out fire.
  • Let stand a few minutes.
  • Add 1/2 teaspoon jelly in each cavity of the apples.
