Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 c. (2 1/2 slices) soft bread crumbs
  • 1 3/4 c. water, divided
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 2 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 c. coarsely ground ginger snap cookies (9 or 10)
  • cooked noodles

Method

  • Combine beef, eggs, crumbs, 1/4 cup water, onions, salt and pepper.
  • Shape into 1 1/2-inch balls.
  • Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, bring remaining water to a boil.
  • Add bouillon cubes, brown sugar, raisins, lemon juice and ginger snaps.
  • Stir until thoroughly combined.
  • Add meat balls to skillet; simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes or until meat is no longer pink.
  • Stir occasionally.
  • Serve over noodles.
