Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 1/2 c. warm water
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. granulated garlic
- 2 2/3 c. flour
- melted butter
Method
- Dissolve yeast in water in a large mixing bowl.
- Add shortening, sugar, salt, garlic and 2 cups of the flour.
- Beat 1 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly.
- Beat 2 minutes at medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally.
- Stir in remaining flour until smooth.
- Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Stir down by beating 25 strokes by hand. Spread evenly in a greased loaf pan.
- Pat with a floured hand to smooth the top.
- Let rise until doubled, about 40 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°.
- Bake 45 minutes, or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Brush top with melted butter; remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
- Makes 1 loaf.
